Veterans often face distinct challenges related to their military service, including physical injuries, emotional wounds, and unique psychological impacts. LifeChoice understands these complexities and ensures that every veteran receives personalized and respectful care.
By addressing the unique experiences and needs of veterans coping with advanced illnesses, LifeChoice helps these men and women find greater peace, comfort, and dignity at the end of life.
On admission, LifeChoice teams in Chicago and nearby communities thoroughly review each veteran patient's military history. This allows us to better understand their medical, emotional, and spiritual needs and enables us to honor their service through personalized recognition activities such as memorial services, pinning ceremonies, bedside salutes, and special tributes.
LifeChoice’s experienced teams understand the complex challenges some veterans face at the end of life, including financial concerns, navigating benefits, coping with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and addressing unresolved emotional struggles linked to military service.
The VA, community-based healthcare providers, or veterans themselves can refer patients to LifeChoice for hospice services. Veterans and their families throughout Chicago and the Chicagoland area are also welcome to contact us directly to learn how we can support them.
LifeChoice maintains strong partnerships with veteran organizations to:

• Help veterans connect with others who share similar experiences
• Support veterans’ mental, physical, and emotional well-being in a community of understanding
• Streamlined referral and admission process
• Expertise in navigating the VA system to help veterans access available benefits
• Hospice care coverage through VA benefits, TRICARE, Medicare, Medicaid, private insurance, and other reimbursement options
• Coordination with local VA medical center staff, including joint care visits when needed
• Dedicated LifeChoice liaisons — many of whom are veterans — to serve as resources for veterans’ groups and VA contacts
• Referrals to additional community services as needed
• Full bereavement support services for families, including grief programs, support groups, and memorial services for up to 13 months after a loved one’s passing
• Celebrations and ceremonies for Veterans Day, Memorial Day, and other significant military anniversaries
LifeChoice Hospice and palliative care across Chicago and the Chicagoland area proudly participate in We Honor Veterans, a national program established by the National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization (NHPCO) and the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).
